Serbian story about Lena and Teodor (2010)- full story

The story is not suitable for under the age under 12, the work is fiction and does not show actual events (even through it was possible due to circumstances of the times)

I have nothing against any nation, this story is only inspired with time when we were under the Turkish's reign, so don't think Turkish people are bad or something or that I hate them because I really don't 😉(I even watch their Tv shows 😂)

Chapter I

What a nice sun over Serbia! Birds were twitting while people plow with plows, housewives do housework and beautiful young girls pick flowers in the meadow. The most beautiful among them, an outstanding girl named Lena, walked through the meadow. Her long brown hair weaved in the wind  and underneath the thick hair were brown eyes that made every boy fall in love with. The wind lifted her sleeves and revealed her hands as white as snow.

Our story begins in 1815., the 19th century, in the time of the Turkish reign. In the village everyone was preparing for bee, the custom of helping each other in the village, and for young people it was an opportunity to fall in love with someone and find future spouses. Most often, during the bees wheat was colected, and after them was a celebration, so Lena and her friends were in the meadow to pluck flowers to garnish themself with it.

In the morning, the girls garnished with flowers and golden ducats, dressed folk costumes and went to the place of the bee, but Lena was not there! She was ill and could not come, though she really wanted to go. Next day, many of her friends talked before her that their parents found a good opportunity for them and to some of them even bee did not help to find the love of her life. At that time, there were many girls to marry so she knew there would be more opportunities for her.

Although she was beautiful, she was and very unlucky person- she would constantly miss the opportunity to go to the places where the young people were gathering because she would constantly suffer some misfortune. She got bored to constantly lose good opportunities and she decides to go to the next bee at all costs, even if the horses run over her.
She was so close when, without any cause, fell into the grass.

Later she woke up and saw a nice young man in front of her. "Are you okay? I found you here and I wondered if I could help you, so I told myself that it would be a shame not to help someone in trouble, especially if it's a girl," he said slowly, then his eyes stopped on her brown eyes. Lena, like any other honourable girl, frightened and ran away home.

The next day, beside the river, Lena was doing the laundry, and then a young man emerged from nowhere, who immediately started apologizing: "Pretty girl, I'm sorry, I did not have a bad intention ... I'm really sorry! By the way, my name is Teodor. "Lena (sighs):" What a nice name! Excuse you, Teodor, I was a little embarrassed. (she looks at him softly and then looks away from the reddening)"

He helped her to take her clothes home, and for the next few days they were seeing at the spring. They would be in the woods, hiding one from the another behind the tree, secretly looking at each other in their love game. At the end, Lena almost dropped the jug but Teodor caught it, and then their eyes met again. Their eyes shone with love. Teodor leaned forward to kiss her, but Lena moved her head. Teodor: "Don't you like me?" Lena: "My dear, I can not describe my love to you.I would like to marry you and to be your bride, but you know that first of all my parents must allow this marriage. " Teodor:"In that case, no problem, tomorrow I'll come to ask your parents."

In the morning he fulfilled the promise and came. He told them everything about himself: he was left without parents, he had a farmworking estate, he likes to work and, of course, he wants to marry Lena. Lena's parents liked Teodor, and they decided not to look for another son-in-law, but to make a wedding for a daughter next month. Two of them fell in love even more and worked together.

Autumn came, so was wedding. The wedding was beautiful and full of Serbian customs, with all the godfather, ,,stari svat" , the duke ... The groom hit an apple with a shotgun and the bride threw sieve on the roof so that their love would remain in place. There was a lot of joy, music, celebration, and then the wedding passes.

But, just the day after the wedding, a man appeared in front of the house. It was a Serbian soldier.

Chapter II

The Serbian soldier called on Teodor to come to the battle and promised him that, as soon as the battle was over, he and the other young men from the village would come home. It was a battle against the Turks who were close to the village. Teodor went and all that remained to Lena were tears, but she thought that her beloved would return.

She waited for days, weeks, and then for the whole month. Finally, the soldiers returned to the village, but Teodor was not among them! He was not even among the living, nor among the dead, he simply disappeared after the battle. Lena was crying, went to the stables and took the horse, then went in an unknown direction. She went to the place of the battle, went through the entire surrounding area, but she did not find Teodor. She ran through meadows, fields, across the hill, asked people, all in vain.

She walked past the Turkish tent, where Turkish soldiers noticed and reported to the sultan that a girl was near the tent. He told them to catch her and bring her into a harem with other women, but Lena quickly reacted and escaped in time. She knew the fate of Serbian girls who were trapped and that scared her. "I belong only to Teodor," she throught while riding toward the forest.

She walked slowly over wet leaves. Her dress was wet from dew, her hands trembled... heart was beating like a drum... She did not stop, she continued walking although her heart was banging like it would pop up, although she lost ground under her legs, although she had a bad feeling.

Suddenly, before her Teodor appeared, wounded, on a wet grass. The Lena ran to him and hugged him. Teodor (slowly): "You found me ... They wounded me when I sneaked into a Turkish tent... I heard that they will again attack our village and kill all men and to capture women... And then burn village afterwards ... Everyone is dead, Lena, and I feel like I'm leaving too... "Lena (crying):" No, you can not die... Teodor! " Teodor: "I will always love you."
He kissed her, looked up at the sky and closed his eyes forevermore. His soul went to heaven. Lena tried to wake him up, he could no longer open his eyes.

Rain started. Lena did not know what she should do- she doesn't want to be a Turkish slave and her village became a bunch of ashes. Her heart was so full of sorrow and pain that she laid beside Teodor and then her soul joined his... In heaven, where they will always be happy ...

A few years later, the Turks left the Balkan and the people were free again. Everything slowly returned to normal.

At the place where Lena and Teodor were found dead a beautiful fountain was created with the words: "Love will overcome all obstacles, even death ..." It was made by villagers who had left the village before the tragedy. Even nowadays, when a couple in love drinks water from that fountain, they are believed to have love as strong as Lena and Teodor's love.
